Support Pediatric Cancer Research!!!

Julie Piotrowski, a Nurse Practitioner for the Dept of Pediatric Surgery at MassGeneral is running the Boston marathon to raise money to support Pediatric Cancer Research at MassGeneral. She specifically asked if she could run for Liam. We met Julie during Liam’s first surgery to remove what we thought was a cyst, since then, we’ve stayed incontact and continue to exchange emails on each other’s progress.

So – How about considering a donation to "Team Julie & Liam" ?? ?? (Click Here). You can also get more details from the MGH Boston marathon link on the right.

THANKS!!!

February is winding down

Liam had a great week, didn’t sleep through the night too many times, but he’s been in a great mood. He’s doing so well, such that Dr. Friedmann is considering increasing the dosage of chemotherapy over the second half of his treatment… more to come on that. We are almost at the halfway mark, he has two more treatments, then two weeks off from the chemo, that will mark the halfway point. During the “off” weeks he’ll have a CT (March 19th to be exact). That will be compared to his baseline CT from December… I don’t think much is expected, I think you have to look at the CT’s overtime… we’ll be doing them every three months.

Other news – Basketball season has ended. Friday night BSC lost to Salem in the MASCAC semi-finals... sad to see it end, but nice to have Bridge around more. We all watched the game from home via webcast... pretty cool. I’m off to St. Louis tonight, so Bridgett is on her own with the three boys for a few days; got the helped lined up.... even though Owen and Jack are great helpers (note the assistance Liam is getting in the swing)... it’s always nice to have an extra set of hands around.

Maybe Bridge will do some blogging while I’m away...

Happy Valentine's Day

Made it through another 24 hours at Mass General; Liam did great, again. Our roomie this time was Marcos, a 2 year old also having chemotherapy. Marcos and Liam occasionally entertained each other, and both slept as well as could be expected, so we’ll give Marcos an 8 as a roomie. A few points deducted for the peek-a-blocks that flew our way, and the occasional screeching.

Lots going on this stay; there was a pizza party Valentines Day party on the floor(courtesy of “Angels Above”), and we finally got our visit from the music therapist. They do so much for the kids, Liam’s a little too young for most of it, but I certainly appreciate it.

So Bridge is off at another big game tonight (Worcester)... Hopefully they win and make it back home before the snow. Nana Casey was here helping with Owen and Jack today, I think she helped make a dent in the piles of dirty laundry too. The guys spent Monday night in Upton, and tonight we are going to make valentine’s ..maybe… we may just watch a movie – it’s the thought that counts right? Actually Owen’s playing a video game, Jack’s playing in the sink and Liam’s in the piano/exer saucer, maybe we’ll just veg out!!

Liam’s in a serious mood this evening as you might be able to tell from his picture.

They do not have any email addresses in Florida, and are desperate to make contact!!!

Another week almost complete.. some highlights of the past few days. Monday night dinner was delivered courtesy of the Casey's of Upton; Wednesday we had an entire day without Basketball!!! Thursday night we broke out the finger paints and created some great art work. This weekend should be pretty quiet, we'll catch up on some needed rest and get ready for our Monday night stay at MassGeneral.

This isn't the most flattering shot of Liam - but a great one of the top teeth he's been working on for the past few weeks!

Liam's appetite

Liam's appetite does not seem to have been affected by he chemotherapy. He had an out-patient treatment today, did well. I think we are all a little tired today from staying up to late to watch the Superbowl, or it could just be that it's February, and it's cold.

...and BTW... doesn't he look like Grampa Laz? Wow.
