Toughguy

Once again, another good checkup for Liam. While radiology will take the remainder of the day to file the official read of Liam's scan, Dr. Friedmann gave us the thumbs up!

It was however, a loooooong morning. Very few times have I ever felt light headed or nauciuos at these appointments; today unfortunately was one of them. The IV process was not very smooth, its needed to get bloodwork and inject contrast for the scan. With tears in his eyes, Liam politely kept saying "no thanks" when asked anything, read a book?"no thanks" Want a prize,"no thanks" draw some blood? "no thanks"...

It got worse in during the scan, they needed to do a second IV. I think I would have preferred screaming and kicking versus the sadness, and the why are you doing this to me looks. I am thankful Liam has little memory of needing to do such things almost daily at one point in his life.

But we made it through that process, with a little bit of waiting in between, and are finnaly on the way back home. Liam is sound asleep next to me now... We'll get a call in a couple of days with our next appointment in February, next time they're thowing an echocardiogram in the mix - just to check on any side effects from the doxirubin and/or radiation on his heart, but for now he's just looking forward to a trip to Friendly's later today.

Another good scan

Liam did great yesterday with his latest checkup. We had lots of anxiety leading up to this day (there was a little too much coughing for our liking during the month of May), but everything looks good. The official report from radiology didn’t come until later in the day, but Dr. Friedmann pretty confidently gave us the thumbs up while we were at MGH.

May was a tough month for us… while we had lots of good things going on; we had lots of challenges too. We seem to be back on track, and looking forward to an adventure filled summer…. I’ll get my blackberry back online and start putting more pictures out to the blog, so even if I don’t have time to write, you can at least see what’s going on.

A training update....

Republished from my running blog....

I’d been feeling a bit down this week; between the rain, and a new clicking sound in my knee, the training was taking its toll… then as the week was coming to an end, I got some reminders of why I’m doing this.

For Declan. A patient of my cousin’s who within the last week, was just diagnosed with cancer. As I read the updates from his parents, I get sad, angry, and more determined to do more ...

And for Tom, who continues to do more… In addition setting up another blood drive, Tom has been one of our family’s greatest supporters. Mark your calendars for June 11th for a blood Drive in honor of Liam in Kingston, MA.

Sunday, I'll be running a half marathon, and have lots to think about along the way, the least of which should be the clicking sound in my knee.

One step at a time

Even though my fundraising site is still under construction, I want to thank Nina & poppa for the first official donation to my marathon fundraising effort!

See Liam's fundraising page here.

A couple of weeks before Christmas I got the official confirmation of a spot on the 2010 MassGeneral Marathon Team. My training had a few speed bumps around the holidays, but I seem to be back on track now, and am considering setting up another blog to record some of my real thoughts about those 6am, 17 degree runs. (I just need a few extra hours in the day!!)

Anyway – I hope this weekend to add more of a personal message on the fundraising site, but appreciate all the support you can throw my way!!!
